St. Basil the Blessed.
The first half of the XVIIIth century.

   The icon "St. Basil the Blessed" of the XVIIIth century displayed a real well-known town landscape: the Kremlin, Varvarka Street, the Cathedral of St. Basil the Blessed, the houses of citizens. Moscow looks like a city of the stately and splendid buildings.

   The figure of St. Basil looks like very affected. The symbolic manner of icon painting technique is in contrast to the wishing of artist to depict the real existing life.
