The Meeting of the icon of "Our Lady of Vladimir". Unknown master. Middle of the XVIIth century.
The icon was painted in honour of the meeting the miracle-working "Our Lady of Vladimir" icon near Moscow in 1395th year. From various historical sources we know, when it was expected the raid of the Tartar Khan Tamerlan hordes to Moscow, the icon was brought from Vladimir for protection. Suddenly the Tartars came back because of their own troubles in the Golden Horde. Since that moment Moscow has been considered to be under the protection of Our Lady of Vladimir.
