Andrei Rublev (ca. 1370 - 1430) Archangel Michael. About 1394. 158x108 cm. The icon from the Zvenigorod row (the Intercession Cathedral of Zvenigorod near Moscow). The State Tretyakov Gallery.
Archangel Michael is very similar to the Angels of "Trinity", especially to the left Angel. His nice face with the curled hair looks like a classic ancient sculpture. This icon was depicted in the traditions of the remarkable Byzantium icon painting. Andrei Rublev's works exercised a great influence on the icon painting in the central and northern cities of Russia in the XV-XVIth centuries.
